In honor of where we’ve been, before we celebrate where we’re going.

We met in the Kansas State Capitol in February, 2023. The first year and a half of our friendship centered on our love for and commitment of service towards our home state of Kansas. We stayed in touch, ultimately both participating in the same post-graduate discipleship program in Washington, D.C. Almost two years after we met, we sat down for dinner to catch up in September, 2024 — that “platonic” conversation spanned well past the meal, and turned into a long walk all throughout downtown Annapolis.

Kansas to Washington, D.C.

Dating in D.C.

Shortly after that dinner, we separately realized our feelings for each other were deeper than those typically corresponding with friendship . . . our first date was over Face Time (splitting a 9-hour timezone difference), and our second was in Kansas just before Thanksgiving. By the grace of God, we have been going on dates, in Kansas, D.C., and Boston, ever since.

We both lived in D.C. until August of 2025, and have been making long-distance work since! We are eagerly awaiting this coming August when we will again be in the same city.

The Proposal

Caleb proposed on the Augusta City Lake at sunset, at the same spot as our first (in-person) date just a year prior. After settling on the terms of our agreement (namely, me saying ‘yes’ after being stunned for an inappropriate amount of time), we were able to enjoy dinner with our family and celebrate the exciting season ahead.
